Shane Burrell — Cinematographer, Colourist & Editor

Shane Burrell is a cinematographer, colourist and editor whose work spans documentary, feature film and television. His approach is instinct-led — reading natural light fast, working efficiently in demanding conditions, and finding texture and cinematic depth in situations that don’t wait for a second take.

For over twenty years Shane has worked as an editor and colourist on long-form projects including the documentary Everybody’s Oma, features Don’t Read This on a Plane and Love Is Now, and the television series Inexplicable. As a cinematographer, his camera has taken him across some of the most dynamic and difficult contexts in the world — from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania to Bangladesh, India and Nepal, through Ukraine, and across Poland, Australia and the United States — shooting documentaries and series that demand both technical precision and creative adaptability.

What defines his style isn’t a fixed setup or a controlled environment. It’s the ability to walk into unpredictable, often difficult situations and still deliver images that feel textural, considered and unmistakably cinematic — carried all the way through post-production, from grade to final finish.

Shane draws on a rich tapestry of personal experience in film, music and theatre to inform his creative work. He believes storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to connect with one another and make sense of the world — through his work, he strives to inspire, entertain and challenge his viewers, leaving them with a sense of wonder and a deeper understanding of the human experience.

Based in Australia, Shane’s career has taken him across Africa, Asia and Europe, and he continues to shoot and finish projects internationally.
